Emmett Cooke is a professional 'honours BA Mus' music for media composer offering his services as a game music composer, music for film composer and general music for media. 24 years old, Emmett lives in Waterford, Ireland and provides music to the world from his personal studio.
Emmett Cooke began his music career in composition and music at the age of 13. Since then he has always been involved in music of some kind, be it composition or performance. His interest in music was born during his years in Donegal as a teenager. Starting off on the keyboard he began his grades at grade 2, showing promise as a pianist, and next moving onto grade 5 and then grade 7. It was at this time he became interested in guitar also and got his first acoustic at the age of the 13 - which some may say was a late start, but he has since proven himself more than capable as a guitarist and pianist.
In 2003 Emmett began a BA in Music in college in Waterford. During his college years he studied composition under the prestigious Irish composer Eric Sweeney and it was from Sweeney that his interest in minimalist music was born, listening to and being influenced by composers such as Reich, Riley and Glass. In his final year during college, he majored in composition, and did a dissertation onan analysis of the music used by John Williams in the Harry Potter films.
It was also during these college years that he decided to become involved in creating music specifically for media, after becoming more and more obsessed with movie soundtracks. Composers such as Thomas Newman, Don Davis, John Adams, John Powell and Danny Elfman were among the list of composers to influence him during his college years, and still do to an extent. Video game soundtracks also began to bear more of an influence on Emmett as he began to listen to popular game soundtracks such as Fallout and Super Mario Brothers. Thus Emmett became a professional in the field of music for media from game music to music for film and more.
After graduating from WIT with an honours BA Mus majoring in composition in his final year, Emmett setup his business 'Music for Media' in early January 2008. The business was setup with the intention of providing individuals and companies with soundtracks for their projects.
